August was another strong month for frozen yogurt. We tracked 126 new places serving froyo in 31 countries, up from 107 openings in 30 countries in July. The United States once again had the most openings with 31, followed by Mexico with 19, and Japan with a surprising 11.
July was another active month for frozen yogurt. We tracked 108 new places to get froyo in 31 countries, compared to 96 new froyo shops in 36 countries in June. As with previous months, we continued to monitor both brand‑new froyo shops and existing businesses adding frozen yogurt to their menus, a trend that remains especially strong in the United States.
June was another strong month for frozen yogurt. We tracked 98 new froyo shops in 37 countries, compared to 89 new froyo businesses in 30 countries in May. With continued growth in existing businesses adding frozen yogurt to their menus, particularly in the United States, we maintained the new category introduced last month to capture this type of activity.
May was a very strong month for frozen yogurt. We tracked 89 froyo businesses, mostly brand new, in 230 countries compared to 68 new froyo businesses in 25 countries in April. With the increase in existing businesses adding froyo to the menu, we added a new category to capture this type of activity. The United States continued to have the most openings, with 22 in May (vs. 16 in April), followed by Mexico with eleven, and Australia with eight.
We tracked 68 new businesses serving frozen yogurt across 25 countries, matching March’s 65 openings in 24 countries. The United States has the most openings with fifteen, followed by Indonesia with six, and Mexico with five. Four of the 66 new businesses were existing businesses that started offering soft serve froyo. Notably, three additional Van Leeuwen scoop shops started offering froyo.
March was a big month for froyo shop openings. We found 65 new froyo shops in 24 countries in March, compared to 43 new froyo businesses in 16 countries in February. The United States and Australia tied for the most openings with nine each, followed by Indonesia and Colombia with seven each, and the Philippines with six.
Santorini, Sour Sally, and Llaollao had the most openings with four each, while Yo-Chi opened three new outlets in Australia.
There were fewer openings in the short month of February than in January. We found 43 new businesses serving froyo in 16 countries, compared to 49 new froyo businesses in 17 countries in January. The United States had the most openings again, with six, followed by The Philippines, Australia, and Mexico with five each.
And the new year begins with 49 froyo openings in 17 countries in January, even fewer than December’s 52 new froyo businesses in 19 countries. It’s traditionally the slowest time of year for froyo, though. The most openings occurred in the United States with nine, followed by the Philippines with seven; the two countries are usually the leaders in froyo shop openings.
