August was another strong month for frozen yogurt. We tracked 126 new places serving froyo in 31 countries, up from 107 openings in 30 countries in July. As in previous months, we continued to monitor both brand‑new froyo shops and existing businesses adding frozen yogurt to their menus.
The United States once again had the most openings with 31, followed by Mexico with 19, and Japan with a surprising 11. It may be the first time that Japan has been in the top three countries for froyo shop openings since we began tracking openings. Interestingly, all the new shops in Japan were opened by South Korean froyo franchises. While the US had fewer new shops open than Mexico, it had many more existing businesses that added froyo.
This month brought several notable international firsts. YOMARO opened its first shop in Spain and Tanzania, and Yo‑Chi debuted its first branch in the United Kingdom, drawing long lines on opening day and beyond. These milestones highlight the continued global expansion of established froyo brands and the growing popularity of frozen yogurt in new markets.
In terms of who opened the most shops, Yogurt World and Yoajung, both South Korean chains, each opened five new locations in Japan. Yogurtland, Frurt, and MYKA added three new branches each.
As always, we also tracked froyo shop closures in August. We found seven closures, though five of these were moves rather than permanent shutdowns.
