And the new year begins with 49 froyo openings in 17 countries in January, even fewer than December’s 52 new froyo businesses in 19 countries. It’s traditionally the slowest time of year for froyo, though. The most openings occurred in the United States with nine, followed by the Philippines with seven; the two countries are usually the leaders in froyo shop openings.
Sour Sally, Chimmy, and Llaollao opened three new outlets each. South Korea’s Yoajung opened its first branch in Taiwan, while Summy Yogurt Experience from Spain opened its first shop in El Salvador.
Sadly, we also found 28 froyo shop closings. This is far more than usual. Llaollao decided to exit the market in Indonesia, closing 24 outlets this month.
