August Froyo Shop Openings and Closings

Froyo activity is slowing down with the end of summer. We found 48 froyo shop openings in 18 countries in August, compared to 60 new froyo shops in 21 countries in July and 87 new froyo shops in 25 countries in June. The United States had the most openings just as in July, with twelve, followed by the Philippines with seven. The Philippines also had the 2nd highest number of new froyo shops in July.

New Book Explains the Process Behind Froyo Shop Design

Mindful Design Consulting is celebrating its 15th year in business with the release of another book, Small Dessert Shop Design Extravaganza, that gives readers a taste of its work. The projects featured in this volume are selected from among the more than 300 completed by Mindful Design Consulting over the years. Most of these designs are for dessert stores, and many are for frozen yogurt shops.

Froyo in Qatar: History, Trends & Shops

Most froyo shops in Qatar are counter-serve shops and can be found in shopping malls, mostly in Doha. Several styles of froyo have been offered – including Italian, American, and Canadian (mix-in style). They’ve even had a froyo truck. Popular toppings and froyo flavors include pistachio, pomegranate, Lotus, and mango.

Summer 2023 New Froyo Flavors and Trends

Summer brought more new fruit flavors to froyo shops in 2023. Berries were the most popular fruit flavor by far, followed by lemonade. Of the twenty new flavors that we found, 85% were fruit flavors, 10% chocolate, and 5% cake. Nine of the 20 flavors were froyo (45%), followed by 6 sorbets, 2 non-dairy alternatives, 2 Italian ices, and 1 ice cream. Fifty percent were vegan flavors.

Reliant Expo 2023 The American Dream Recap

Reliant Foodservice, Southern California’s one-stop shop for coffee shops, froyo shops, and smoothie/juice bars, held its annual product show at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel on August 5. This year’s theme was The American Dream. There were over 70 exhibiting manufacturers, show specials, complimentary lunch, a raffle, and the Money Booth where you go in and grab coupons.

July Froyo Shop Openings & Closings

July was a good month for froyo shop openings, though there were much fewer openings than in June (National Frozen Yogurt Month). We found 58 new froyo shops in 20 countries in July, compared to 87 new froyo shops in 25 countries in June. The United States had the most openings, with fourteen, followed by the Philippines with nine.

The IFYA Turns Ten

The IFYA turns ten! We’re currently over 3,000 members strong. Of our current members 43% indicated that they are current froyo shop owners or employees, 23% prospective froyo shop owners, 15% froyo fans, 11% other, and 9% industry suppliers. Our members represent 132 countries, with 71% of members from the US.

Froyo Trends: Rise of Sugar-Free Froyo Shops

There is an emerging trend of sugar-free and no sugar added froyo shops outside the US. Also, it appears that no sugar added shops might be coming to the US soon. These sugar-free froyo shops are particularly common in Mexico but have also emerged in other countries, namely with the growth of Yolé.
