Celebrating Earth Day: The Eco-Friendly Froyo Revolution

Smooy Singapore

Earth Day is the perfect time to reflect on the environmental impact of our daily choices, particularly in the food and frozen yogurt industry. Eco-friendly practices in froyo shops can take many forms, from sourcing ingredients locally to reduce your shop’s carbon footprint, to using biodegradable or recyclable containers and utensils. Additionally, implementing energy-efficient equipment and lighting can significantly decrease a shop’s environmental impact.

Remember that by embracing these eco-friendly measures, froyo shops contribute positively to the environment but also resonate with customers who value sustainability. This Earth Day, let’s support those businesses that are making a difference for our planet.

We’d like to recognize the efforts of a few frozen yogurt businesses that have shown their commitment to the environment. If we recognized your shop in the past, we likely left you off of this year’s post, but we’re still applauding you from a distance.

We encourage all frozen yogurt shops to find ways to reduce waste, adopt eco-friendly packaging, use energy-efficient appliances and lighting, reduce single-use plastics, and avoid toxic cleaning supplies. For the shops that are doing so, thank you!

And here’s our list of eco-friendly froyo shops and froyo products!

COYO Frozen Yogurt, Australia, IG @coyo_organic

COYO has introduced a range of dairy-free frozen yogurt sold in Australian supermarkets. The froyo is 100% organic, free from preservatives, and made with natural ingredients that are sustainably grown.

Frozen Delight, United States, IG @frozendelight520

Frozen Delight, a froyo shop in Tucson, Arizona, that’s been serving the community for over 25 years, became Green Business Certified last year. To save water, they switched to air-cooled frozen yogurt machines. Other eco-friendly practices include installing LED lighting, adopting recyclable packaging, and repurposing old furniture and decor.

Moxie’s, United States, IG @moxieswindsor

Moxie’s in Windsor, California, gave out seed packets last Earth Day. Plants do so much to improve the environment, including producing oxygen, helping to prevent soil erosion, increasing soil fertility, and more.

Smooy gave out free reusable coconut bowls with every purchase of a Smöoy frozen yogurt pint last June.

Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt, United States, IG @subzerosrq

Top It Yogurt Shoppe, United States, IG @topityogurtshoppe_

We’ll let Top It Yogurt Shoppe in Snohomish, Washington, explain their commitment to sustainability: “We are carbon neutral, compost or recycle 90% of our waste, bake with organic ingredients whenever available, use reusable bowls and spoons, refuse to send plastic out from our shop, and have five vegan soft-serve options to lessen the impact of our operation on the planet that supports all of us.”

Yo-Chi, Australia, IG @iloveyochi

Yo-Chi in Australia replaced single-use drinks with water stations in 2023. In 2024, Y0-Chi is aiming to compost everything in the customer experience and is participating in a commercial composting trial in South Australia. Yo-Chi teams also dedicate 30 minutes every week to picking up trash around Yo-Chi venues.

Feel free to nominate an eco-friendly froyo shop that belongs on this list.
