Summer 2019 Froyo Flavors & Trends

Since summer is the prime season for frozen yogurt, we wanted to look at summer flavor trends. Like previous summers, frozen yogurt shops kept things light and fruity with an abundance of new sorbet flavors. Flavors featuring branded ingredients like OREO, Sour Patch Kids, and HI-CHEW, and non-dairy options were also popular. Earlier non-dairy offerings often used almond milk. Lately, we’ve seen a move towards cashew milk and coconut milk.

The new summer flavors:

  • 16 Handles: Frose sorbet, Cookies & Cashew Milk vegan soft serve made with cashew milk
  • Menchie’s: Peppa Pig Cotton Candy froyo, Blue Raspberry Sorbet made with Sour Patch Kids flavor, S’mores froyo made with Hershey’s, Hi-Chew Dragon Fruit froyo, Milk Chocolate ‘N’ Almonds froyo, Chocolate Hazelnut dairy-free soft serve made with cashew milk, Milk Chocolate Caramel made with Ghirardelli froyo, Fresh Squeezed Strawberry Lemonade sorbet, Gourmet Chocolate gelato
  • Menchie’s Canada: Nestle Aero froyo, Nestle Caramel Drumstick froyo
  • Orange Leaf: Cookies ‘N Cream gelato made with OREO
  • Pinkberry Canada: Strawberry Rose froyo
  • Yoga-urt: Peaceful Peach vegan froyo, Cherry Amaretto vegan froyo
  • Yogen Fruz: Dragon Fruit U Sensation
  • Yogurtland: Fruit Punch sorbet, Dairy Free Key Lime Pie froyo made with coconut milk, Cookies & Crème made with OREO light ice cream, Pomegranate Lime Twister sorbet
  • Yogurtys: Froot Loops froyo, Cookie Butter Speculoos frozen yogurt

It’s worth noting that Menchie’s introduced its first gelato offering. Also, Dannon YoCream will introduce its first light ice cream later this year. And The Frozen Bean launched line of Sunkist soft serve, including dairy-based and dairy-free sorbet versions.

While not listed here, we have also seen an increase in promoted swirls – i.e., two existing flavors swirled together. The summer has also been very popular for froyo photo contests and sweepstakes.
