Warmer weather is bringing more froyo shops. In May, we found 45 new froyo shops and froyo trucks. And the openings occurred in 21 different countries! In April, we found 31 new froyo shops in 15 countries and in March, 36 new froyo shops.
The US had the most froyo shop openings with eight, followed by Ecuador with five. Llaollao, Europe and Asia’s largest froyo chain, opened 6 new froyo trucks in Spain and two shops in Malaysia. Greenfrost of Ecuador opened 4 new shops. Congratulations Yoghurt Barn of the Netherlands, on their first international location; they opened in Belgium. The new Zo’Zen in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico is Mexico’s first CBD-infused froyo shop.
Sadly, we also found six froyo shop closings. Two of these businesses hope to reopen at a new location.

Crave Burgers and Frozen Yogurt in Albany, NY closed in late May. They hope to find a new location soon. The owners posted the following message on Instagram, “we are here to announce that we (Devin and Kaytrin) had to make the difficult decision to close Crave. We have plans to reopen in a new location in the near future once we find the right spot. This decision was not made lightly but in the end it’s what will be for the best. Our last services will be at the end of May so stay tuned for an official closing date. This was a very difficult decision to make emotionally for our team, this is where our entire future really started, we have employees still working here that have been here since day one and we still are in touch with employees that have graduated because of the bond we created with so many people working beside us. Working at crave were some of the best years of our lives. We’ll miss the sound of sprinkles hitting the floor and the “whoops” look on a mom’s face when her child opened the topping dispenser too quickly. We’ll miss the random 11pm rushes and the way our regulars popped in for their first visit of the year on the way to their shore houses. We’ll miss it all. But mostly we’ll miss our staff members. You guys were (and are) family.
This difficult decision was the natural next step for us. Our family is growing and our year-round, individual pursuits have become more time consuming. If we had the bandwidth, we’d keep Narwhal open for another decade (and another, and another). But unfortunately, we just don’t. 🤍
