March 2021 Froyo Shop Openings and Closings

With the warmer weather, many seasonal froyo shops reopened this month and there were quite a few new froyo shop openings as well. Mexico led the way with four new froyo shops, followed by Malaysia and Australia with 3 each. Llaollao had three openings this month with more planned for next month. All Yogurtland locations in Australia closed on March 28.

Chill’z Frozen Yogurt, 1719 Main St, Baker City, OR 97814

Chill’z in Baker City, Oregon closed for the winter and reopened in March for the liquidation sale. The closing was announced in February: “Chill’z would like to inform all our Google Customers that we are closing due to Covid-19. We will be closing our doors at Chill’z. We are very sorry that this had to come to pass. We were not able to make enough money in 2020 to sustain our business with only being open for a month and half the entire year. We appreciate you all and will miss you in the coming years. Theresa”

Culture Shock Yogurt, 2985 Bell Rd, Auburn, CA 95603

Culture Shock closed the Bell Rd. location on March 31. The shop is moving to 10136 Woodridge Dr. in Auburn, CA.

Lieblings Leckerei, Am Kreuzberg 3, 40489 Düsseldorf, Germany

Lieblings Leckerei announced that March 24 would be the final day of business. They posted the following message on Instagram: “Sometimes you cannot influence circumstances and that is why we close the favorite treat with heavy hearts on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 for private and health reasons! Since it was not an easy step, there was a desire to do it at short notice in order to avoid the pain of saying goodbye. We go with a laughing and crying eye! We did our best every day to bring a smile to every customer! We shaped an entire generation. We are very fortunate that even customers have come to us from afar. We know it will be a loss to many who have visited us daily. But WE WILL BACK SOON STRONGER.”

Menchie’s Ocean Park (Santa Monica, CA) closed during the pandemic, reopened, and closed again. It hasn’t open in months and Yelp reports the location has closed. But the equipment is still inside, so it might reopen?

Menchie’s, 1247 East Blvd Ste 240, Charlotte, NC 28203

Menchie’s Kenilworth Commons (Charlotte, NC) closed on March 28 after 10 years of swirling.

Orange Leaf, 184 S River Ave, Holland, MI 49423

The Holland Sentinel reported that there was a “for rent” sign in the window of the former Orange Leaf location in Holland, Michigan. The story was published on March 8. The shop reopened after the initial pandemic closure but has been closed for the last few months. The last Google review was in September 2020. The shop opened in 2013 and changed ownership in January 2020.

Verde Brio, 162 Rokeby Rd, Subiaco WA 6008, Australia

Verde Brio, the Italian counter-serve froyo shop in Western Australia, announced on March 22 that the shop would close on March 28. They posted the following on Instagram, “We regret to inform all our dear froyo loving customers. Verde Brio Subiaco will be winding down operations and officially shutting its doors on Sunday 28 March 2021 at 5pm. The lease has come to an end and we have decided the time is right for us to move onto other aspirations. The last three years would not have been possible without our customers, staff & friends and family!! so from the bottom of our hearts a BIG thank you !! 🙏 🙏 🙏 AND to show our appreciation for all the customers that come through our doors going forward to when we close, we will be giving away free toppings!! Yes it is your opportunity to GO CRAZY 😝”

Yogurtland, 956 Higuera St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

The San Luis Obispo Tribune reported that Yogurtland had closed after 5 years in downtown San Luis Obispo. The last Yelp review was posted in July 2020, the last Google review in October 2020, and the last Instagram post was in June 2020. It probably closed during the pandemic and decided not to reopen.

The remaining 11 locations of Yogurtland Australia closed on March 28: Belconnen, Erina, Glendale, Green Hills, Harbour Town, Macarthur Square, Manly, Marketown, Penrith, Tuggerah, Wetherhill Park. Yogurtland Australia posted the following on Facebook, ““After eight years of making bad days good and good days great, we have made the difficult decision to close all Yogurtland Australia stores. The ongoing ban of our self-serve model and economic impact of COVID-19 have taken their toll and despite our best efforts, we are unable to move forward.”

Yogurtree, a family owned self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2012, closed on March 30. The owners posted the following on Facebook, “We’re sad to announce that after almost a decade of serving the Doylestown community we have decided to not renew our lease. With remote and hybrid office work here to stay, consumer dining patterns are changing. We hope that you continue to support our fellow small business eateries. Please come say goodbye to years of memories in the coming days. We’ll be open from 12-9pm every day while supplies last. Thanks for the past support and for allowing us to be part of your community!”
