June, aka National Frozen Yogurt Month, was another busy month for froyo shop openings. We found 45 froyo shop openings in 20 countries. In May, we found 42 froyo shop openings. The most openings occurred in the US again (same as in May) with ten, followed by Mexico with six.
Llaollao, the largest froyo chain in Europe and Asia, opened five new shops. Flavorcup had four openings: three shops in Mexico and one in Peru.
Sadly, we also found six froyo shop closings, including 12-year old Kara Cafe (formerly known as Sogurt) in Singapore.

KARA Café (formerly Sogurt) has closed after 12 years in Singapore. The owner posted the following on Instagram, “KARA (and formerly Sogurt) @ Bukit Timah has been a big blessing to us in so many ways, but we’ve agreed it’s time to go given the industry’s increasing manpower challenges. It’s been a heartbreaking process to let go of something so dear to our hearts. This store was my first baby – birthed right out of college when I first came back to SG from LA in 2009. It’s been the mainstay of Sogurt as we went through the opening and closing of many stores over a span of 12+ years. It’s been our 2nd home, our community, and customers and staff alike have become like family. I will especially miss seeing childrens’ faces light up when they swirl their froyo and choose their toppings at the Sogurt self-serve bar. Their expressions are priceless! Would have to let Baby Gemma experience this joy someday somehow. The end of something good is never easy, but in the process, God has graced us with favour in finding new opportunities for all our staff, and a smooth handover so far to the new operators who are also friends of ours. Me and my family have made peace with our decision over the past weeks of discussions, and agree this is best for us moving forward. We’ll miss our shop loads, but also look forward to the next chapter. Hope it’ll be as meaningful and fun of a pursuit! It’s been our joy and privilege to have served u the past 12+ years.
