Froyo in Argentina: History, Trends, and Shops

BeFruit

Argentina has the third largest economy in Latin America and a population of 44.94 million. The three largest cities by population are Buenos Aires (2.9 million), Cordoba (1.3 million), and Rosario (1.19 million).

Freddo and Tentissimo were the first to offer froyo in Buenos Aires in 2010. Neither were froyo shops. In 2011, several froyo shops opened in Argentina, including Top It, BeFruit, Yogurteria La Serenisima, etc. More openings occurred. Many froyo shops closed during 2014-2017. Today, only a few froyo shops remain and the largest chains are BeFruit and Yogurtmania.

Froyo shops in Argentina are mostly small with limited froyo flavors (1 or 2) offered in a counter-serve format. The most common flavor is plain/natural. Most shops are local and not part of a franchise.

Argentina is famous for ice cream, so froyo shops faced a challenge when they first opened, but the novelty and health positioning definitely helped. Also, Argentinians have the highest rate of yogurt consumption in Latin America.
