Eco-friendly Froyo Shops

Reusable bowls from Easy Breezy

On this Earth Day 2020, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we’d like to recognize and applaud a few frozen yogurt businesses that have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprint or support non-profit organizations dedicated to the environment. We encourage all frozen yogurt shops to find ways to reduce waste, adopt eco-friendly packaging, use energy efficient appliances, and avoid toxic cleaning supplies.

BLK 513, Philippines

BLK 513, a froyo chain known for bringing activated charcoal frozen yogurt to the Philippines, introduced the Sea Changing Cup last year. The portion of the proceeds of cup sales go to CORA, a non-profit that’s fighting against plastic pollution and save our seas. And the non-toxic, BPA-free, food-safe steel cup is made by Klean Kanteen using socially and environmentally responsible manufacturing processes. Customers are encouraged to bring the cup back to the shop to be filled with froyo.

Easy Breezy Frozen Yogurt (Bay Area, California), Swirl of Honor member

Easy Breezy, our very first Swirl of Honor member, shows commitment to the environment by using local, organic ingredients as much as possible, offering many plant-based soft serve flavors made in house, using compostable packaging and serveware, and adopting zero waste practices.  Last summer, they introduced reusable, portable, collapsible froyo bowls. Anyone who uses the bowl gets 10% off froyo purchases.

Ono Yo, Kahuku, Hawaii

We’re crushing on the new Ono Yo coconut bowls with ebony wood spoons that they’re selling. Both are engraved. The spoon says Ono Yo and the bowl has the logo.

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt

Back in 2017, Orange Leaf handed out seed packets with Earth Day purchases. The packets contained wildflower seeds. Orange Leaf cups can be used as planters and the shovel spoons as plant markers.

Peachwave, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Last Earth Day, Peachwave Kalamazoo gave 5% of sales and all donations to The Canopy Project. Each dollar resulted in one tree being planted. The Canopy Project plants trees across the globe. This year, the Canopy Project hopes to plant a tree for every person on the planet, or 7.8 billion trees.

Yo-Chi, Australia

Just introduced this January, Yo-Chi’s Chi-Cups (for froyo) from @ecosoulifer are re-usable, biodegradable, and all-natural. Choose from 6 colors.

Yoga-urt, Glendale & Los Angeles, California, Swirl of Honor member

By offering only plant-based, organic frozen yogurt, Yoga-urt’s hand-crafted soft serve, made with a rich blend of cashew and almond milk, is better for the environment than conventional dairy based soft serve. All the packaging and serveware are compostable. The almond pulp that’s a byproduct of their almond milk is used to make pie crusts and cookies. A certified Green Business, Yoga-urt goes above and beyond to be earth-friendly.

YOLO, San Anselmo, California

YOLO, which opened last May, offers a 25 cent discount when you use one of their reusable froyo cups at the shop. They have reusable spoons as well.
