Prime froyo season may be over but it’s still a busy time for froyo openings. We found 47 froyo shop openings in 18 countries in August compared to 49 froyo shop openings in 25 countries in July. The most froyo openings occurred in Mexico, where we’re seeing many stylish froyo shops open; many of them offer lower sugar, lowfat/nonfat, healthier froyo. There were ten new froyo shops that opened in Mexico in August, followed by seven in the US, six in Malaysia, and five in Indonesia.
Llaollao, Europe and Asia’s largest froyo chain, opened three new outlets in Malaysia. Smooy, Tutti Frutti, and Chia-Yo also opened three new outlets. Bay-Yo introduced the world’s first froyo pontoon in Constance Bay, Ottawa, Canada.
Sadly, we also found nine froyo shop closings, including two Pinkberry branches in New Orleans. Most of the stores that closed were over 10 years old.
