Froyo Gives Back, the 2023 Edition

Happy National Frozen Yogurt Month! Every June, we like to recognize socially responsible frozen yogurt shops that give back.

Thank you to every froyo shop that helped their community by hosting fundraisers, donating to worthy causes, sponsoring cause-related events, and offering free or discounted froyo to law enforcement, healthcare workers, teachers, veterans, and more. We appreciate you!

Here are a few recent examples of froyo giving back.

  • Humphry Slocombe (IG @humphryslocombe) is a Bay Area (Northern California) ice cream chain but they created the new Mango Lassi ice cream (it’s made with yogurt, so we think of it as froyo or yogurt ice cream) in partnership with CAAMFest, the Center for Asian American’s film festival. They donated $1 to CAAM for every scoop of Mango Lassi sold at Bay Area scoop shops in May 2023.
  • J.P. Licks (IG @jplicks) in Boston, MA, collected 731 pairs of new socks and donated them to their neighbor, the non-profit, Rosie’s Place. Rosie’s Place created the first women-only shelter in the country in 1974. Yes, J.P. Licks is an ice cream chain but they also carry soft serve froyo.
  • Surfin’ Spoon (IG @surfinspoon) in Outer Banks, NC, was founded by a surfer. The shop collects donations to Surfing for Autism all year long. Those who wish to donate stick their dollar bills in the walls and ceilings. In 2022, Surfin’ Spoon raised $18,000 for Surfing for Autism. The mission of Surfing for Autism is to provide a supportive environment for individuals and families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder to experience the therapeutic benefits of surfing.
  • SweetFrog is supporting the American Red Cross‘ water safety efforts by matching customer donations to the Red Cross. Guests who donate will receive sweetFrog coupons as a thank you. SweetFrog locations will also host water safety nights. Those who sign up for Red Cross’ June Swim Challenge will have the chance to win branded Red Cross and sweetFrog merchandise.
  • Yasso (IG @yasso) continued to reward local heroes with $1,000 grants. Lisa Goldman won $1,000 for Sports 4 the Kids, a non-profit organization that helps remove financial barriers to participating in children’s sports, through scholarships and equipment donations. Jilian Lennon won $1,000 for Meals on Wheels in Montgomery County. Yasso also partnered with @candaid to build 100 bikes that were donated to Avon Elementary School 1st and 2nd graders. And Yasso donated 10,000 pairs of PUMA sneakers to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and Metro Denver in 2022.
  • Yogurt Mill (IG @yogurtmillfroyo) in Central California participated in the 10th annual crab feed fundraiser and raised $2,955 for the Center for Human Services’ Oakdale Family Resource and Counseling Center (FRC). The FRC provides emergency food and clothing, monthly food box distribution, rent and utility assistance, substance use treatment program, school readiness classes for children, parent education classes, and personal hygiene products. For Teacher’s Appreciation Week, they had a contest. The prize was free froyo for a year for a deserving froyo-loving teacher.
  • Yogurtland (IG @yogurtlandinc) donates the proceeds from the sale of Yogurtland merchandise to its non-profit, Yogurtland Cares. Yogurtland Cares supports organizations that aid children and women. They’re currently supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Rescuing Lives, and Exodus Cry.
  • Yo-Chi (IG @iloveyochi) in Australia was one of the eco-friendly froyo shops that we mentioned in our Earth Day 2023 post. They collected donations for @bobbrownfoundation, a non-profit with the mission of permanently protecting the Takayna/ Tarkine National Park and returning it to Aboriginal ownership. Yo-Chi also matched the donation money raised by their customers.
