Creative Froyo Toppings, the 2022 Edition

Last week, we highlighted creative froyo flavors from around the world. Of course, we wouldn’t forget to talk about creative froyo toppings. Here are some of the creative froyo toppings that we’ve spotted from froyo shops around the world.

Brookies, NuYo Frozen Yogurt, USA, IG @nuyo_eastlake

NuYo has multiple self-serve locations in California. They’ve just added brookies, a cross between a cookie and a brownie, to the toppings bar. Milk + Brookies first opened in 2014 in Los Angeles and the founders appeared on Shark Tank in 2015. You can still order brookies from their website but brookies are easier to find now. Trader Joe’s introduced their Brookies in 2018.

Calamansi honey cheesecake sauce, BLK 513, Philippines, IG @BLK513ph

BLK 513 of the Philippines is known for their innovative sauces. They were on our creative toppings list last year, with Mango Cheesecake sauce. Their new sauce, Calamansi Honey Cheesecake sauce, was introduced in March 2021. They describe the sauce as a balance of sweet and tart flavors. Calamansi, known as a Filipino lemon, has a sour taste.

Crunchy Maltine, Sour Sally, Indonesia, IG @soursallycoid

Sour Sally, the creators of the world’s first black froyo, just introduced a new topping: Crunchy Maltine. Ovomaltine is a malt-flavored powder that is added to hot or cold milk to create a flavored beverage. It was originally developed in Switzerland. We’re not entirely sure what Crunchy Maltine is but you can find it at Sour Sally in Indonesia.

Durian cheese, llaollao Malaysia, IG @llaollao_my

Sour Sally once had durian sauce. Durian is back on our list of creative toppings. Llaollao added cheese to durian and offered it in West Malaysia.

Earl Grey custard, Smile Yogurt, Hong Kong, IG @smileyogurt

Smile Yogurt, known for their elaborate froyo parfaits, just created a new froyo parfait called Mr Earl Grey. Mr. Earl Grey includes Earl Grey crumb, Earl Grey custard, black sugar crystals, vanilla sauce, honeycomb, and dried orange slice. Find it in Hong Kong.

Haw flakes, Yole, Malaysia, IG @yolemalaysia

Yole, which opened its first outlet in Malaysia in December 2021 had two special toppings for Lunar New Year 2022: Mandarin oranges and Haw flakes. Haw flakes are a traditional Chinese candy made from the fruit of Chinese hawthorn. Haw flakes are thin, pink discs and they taste like an apricot fruit roll up.

Maca cinnamon almond cream, DeliBlu, Mexico, IG @deli.blu

DeliBlu in Zapopan, Mexico introduced new spreads this year, including an intriguing sounding maca cinnamon almond cream. Maca is a plant that’s indigenous to the Peruvian Andes and has been used by Andeans as a medicine. It may improve mood and have other beneficial effects.

Passionfruit cheesecake, Culture, US, IG @cultureny

Culture in New York not only makes their own cheesecake for their toppings bar but they make different flavors. The newest flavor is passionfruit cheesecake.

Ricotta cannoli, Yo-Chi, Australia, IG @iloveyochi

Yo-Chi in Australia has been impressing us with their Special-Chi monthly topping. In March, they started offering ricotta cannoli. Past Special-Chi toppings included superfood sprinkle, Nutella baklava, rainbow Turkish Delight, and Hello Panda cookies.

Sakura mochi, Yoogu, Indonesia, IG @yoogubar

Yoogu in Indonesia offers Sakura mochi, the chewy glutinous rice cake. Sakura is the Japanese term for ornamental cherry blossom trees. The Sakura flavor comes from cherry blossom flowers. The raw flower petals taste like bitter almonds. Pickled Sakura has a salty and sour taste.

Sweet potato vinegar sauce, Yogorino, Japan, IG @yogorino_japan_official

Yogorino Japan made with our creative toppings list last year with chestnut sauce and they’re back on it this year with sweet potato vinegar sauce. It was introduced as part of their autumn 2021 menu, along with a sweet potato pie froyo creation and sweet potato crepe.

Sponge fruit cake, Yogen Fruz, Dominican Republic, IG @yogenfruzrd

For Christmas, Yogen Fruz Dominican Republic, introduced a sponge cake with dried fruits, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
