Did you catch our post of the latest creative froyo flavors last week? When it comes to froyo, some people think toppings are equally, if not more important. And so, we present our 2021 list of creative froyo toppings from around the world. We’re happy to see that shops continued to introduce creative new toppings during the pandemic.

Chestnut sauce, Yogorino, Japan, @yogorino_japan_asia

Chestnuts are a favorite autumn food in Japan, when they are in season. Last fall, Yogorino Japan offered chestnuts and chestnut sauce as froyo toppings.

Churros, Yo Mama, Wisconsin, US, @yomamagoodness

Freshly baked churros were spotted at Yo Mama’s topping bar in February 2021. Yo Mama has two locations in Wisconsin.

Coffeerture, Pick, Kuwait, @pick_kuwait

Coffeerture is dried coffee beans ground into a fine powder that dusts the froyo at Pick in Kuwait. Eat your coffee!

Honey peach collagen sauce, Smooy, Singapore, @smooy.sg

Smooy Singapore launched the new honey peach collagen sauce in December 2020. They partnered with Doki Doki, a functional food brand whose lineup includes collagen juices. Doki Doki uses hydrolysed Type 1 marine collagen which boosts skin elasticity and hydration.

Mango cheesecake sauce, BLK 513, Philippines, @blk513ph

BLK 513 created a new sauce, Mango Cheesecake, using caramelized mangoes and creamy cheese. The white sauce looks very striking with their signature black froyo.

Pan de Muerto, Yogin, Mexico, @yoginfrozen

Yogin is a new froyo shop in Torreon, Mexico that opened last fall. The counter-serve shop carries four flavors of all-natural froyo a day and 30 toppings. Last October, they offered pan de muerto (bread of the dead) in honor of the Day of the Dead. Pan de Muerto is a sweet bread that’s typically flavored with orange and/or anise.

Purple sweet potato chips, Smile, Hong Kong, @smileyogurt

Smile Yogurt, the Hong Kong froyo chain known for elaborate froyo parfaits, created a froyo parfait last September called Bliss of Autumn. Bliss of Autumn featured purple potato toppings. We think we spotted mochi (purple potato flavored?) and crispy purple potato chips. Purple potatoes are rich in minerals and antioxidants. They have a nuttier, earthier flavor than white potatoes.

Rainbow pillow cake, Yogurtland, Indonesia, @yogurtland.id

Yogurtland Indonesia, which is part of the California-based worldwide froyo chain, offers some products that are unique to Indonesia. Rainbow pillow cake was offered exclusively at the Yogurtland Café at Senayan Park Mall. The froyo was swirled on top of the cake. Rainbow cake usually features the six layers, one for each color of the rainbow. Their rainbow pillow cake featured three colors: green, yellow, and red. It didn’t look like a pillow either but maybe pillow cake is another way to describe sponge cake? It looked like sponge cake. We’re pretty sure the green layer is pandan-flavored.

Taro latte sauce, Sour Sally, Indonesia, @soursallycoid

Indonesia’s largest froyo chain, Sour Sally created the world’s first black frozen yogurt in 2015. They’re also known for innovative toppings, like their new taro latte sauce, introduced in February 2021. The sauce is purple in color.

Twisties, Yo-Chi, Australia, @iloveyochi

Yo-Chi recently started offering Twisties as a topping. Twisties are a crunchy cheese curls snack made out of corn, rice, and wheat. They were invented by an Australian, Isador Magid, in 1951. Twisties are made in Australia.
