Creative Froyo Flavors That We’d Love to Try, 2018 Edition

We love seeing creative frozen yogurt flavors so much that we take the time to track new flavors. We would also like to recognize frozen yogurt shops that are flavor development leaders. These are creative frozen yogurt flavors that we’d like to try.

Flavors Outside the US

  • My Froyoland in India (@myfroyoland) developed several exotic local flavors, including Jaipur Thandai and Modak. Thandai is a cold Indian drink prepared with almonds, fennel seeds, magaztari seeds, rose petals, pepper, vetiver seeds, cardamom, saffron, milk, and sugar. Modaks are steamed or fried dumplings filled with grated coconut and jaggery.
  • North Haven in Tokyo, Japan (@northhaventokyo) offers a Sakura (cherry blossom) frozen yogurt flavor that can be paired with sakura mochi.
  • Pick in Kuwait (@pick_kuwait) has some of the best looking froyo pictures we’ve seen. We’re intrigued by the new flavor, Five Cereals. The five cereals are oat, corn, rice, bran, and wheat.
  • Yogorino is an Italian chain that had one froyo flavor, plain, for years. Surprisingly, their Japanese branch (@yogorino_japan_asia) has a Sweet Potato froyo.
  • Yogurt Boom in Venezuela (@yogurtboom) created Harry Potter inspired flavors and cups. The Harry Potter inspired frozen yogurt flavors included Butter Beer and Patronus. They also created Games of Thrones inspired flavors (Dragon Glass, Dracarys, Fire and Blood) and cups. We’re not sure what most of those flavors taste like.

Flavors in the US

  • Easy Breezy in San Francisco, CA (@easybreezyofficial) was the first place we knew of to make cucumber frozen yogurt using fresh cucumbers and fresh mint. They’ve taken it further by turning Cucumber AmazeMint into a vegan flavor made with organic coconut mSecurityilk.
  • Eb & Bean in Portland, OR (@ebandbean) makes their flavors by hand and the flavors sound crazy good: Honey Apricot Creme Fraiche, Sour Cherry Mascarpone, Brown Butter Strawberry Ricotta, and Vanilla Mint Matcha (vegan). Drool.
  • Juicy Sweet in Aptos, CA offers fresh juices, smoothies, and organic frozen yogurt with creative flavors like Cardamom Pistachio, Rose Petal, and Vietnamese Avocado Smoothie.
  • Yoga-urt in Glendale, CA (@yoga-urt) makes its organic, dairy-free, kosher, probiotic soft serve by hand, in small batches. While Mint Magic doesn’t sound that innovative, it contains a surprise ingredient, avocado. And Blue Warriors (popcorn and peanuts) is actually blue (with no artificial colors). Mango Sunrise is made with kombucha. Purple Power is made with cherries, coconut, beets, raspberries, blueberries, pomegranates, spinach, basil and more. Furthermore, Purple Power is naturally sweetened with fruit and no added sugar.
  • Yogurtland is a large chain, but it’s always been more creative when it comes to flavor development. One of their new spring flavors is Hibiscus Pear Tart frozen yogurt. The flavor was inspired by hibiscus tea, which tastes surprising fruity, like cranberries.

Of course, flavors rotate and some are available for a limited time only, so some of the flavors on our list may not be currently available. If you’re looking for a particular flavor, it’s always best to call first, unless the shop posts its flavors.
