Another Way to Save on Froyo: Cash Back Deals

Froyo prices keep rising lately and consumers are looking for discounts. In our National Frozen Yogurt Consumer Survey, we asked what might increase froyo consumption. Respondents rated discounts as most likely to increase their future froyo consumption. In this post, we consider several new cash back programs from Groupon, Yelp, and Uber.

Groupon

Groupon introduced Groupon+ for Groupon members in September 2017. Basically, the program gives Groupon members cash back from participating restaurants when using a linked Visa or Mastercard credit card. Joining Groupon is free. After joining, the user should sign into Groupon account and then look for Groupon+ deals. To select a deal, the user just needs to hit the Claim This Deal button. Also, the Groupon member needs to provide Groupon has with her current credit card information (Visa or Mastercard). To redeem, the member simply uses the linked credit card at businesses where she’s claimed the deal.

Not only is the offer totally free to claim, but the cash back rewards are significant. We saw froyo shops were offering 30% cash back and in some cases 100% cash back for making four purchases within a certain time frame. The Groupon+ deals can be used as often as someone would like. The credit card company will credit members for eligible purchases.

If you read the fine print, you’ll notice that the 30% cash back offer is typically good for the first purchase only, with a discount of 10% for subsequent visits. You can track your Groupon+ deals using the Groupon app.

Yelp

The Yelp Cash Back program provides up to 10% back when Yelpers visit participating businesses. To join, Yelpers should visit the Cash Back Rewards page in Yelp and link credit cards to their account. Some Cash Back offers are automatically applied when the linked credit card is used at the participating business, but others require the Yelper to click the Claim Cash Back Here button to activate the offer. Enrollment is free. Joining Yelp is also free. Earned credits are added to the Yelper’s credit card once a month. Yelp claims to have over 8,000 cash back locations.

Uber

Uber has brought back Visa Local Offers. The program allows US Uber riders to earn Uber credits when they shop at participating restaurants and businesses with their linked Visa card. The Visa card needs to attached to their Uber account. To participate, the Uber user needs to have a Visa card attached to his/her Uber account, then he/she needs to look for Visa Local Offers, tap “Get Started” and then tap “Count Me In.”

Groupon+ seems to have the best deals but there’s no real cost or risk to joining multiple cash back programs.
