Bumbershoot & Frozen Yogurt

What is Bumbershoot?

Bumbershoot, happening this Labor Day weekend (8/31-9/2) at Seattle Center in Seattle, is the nation’s largest music and arts festival, with attendance reaching over 100,000 people. This year marks the 43rd year of Bumbershoot, which offers a truly diverse lineup of music, comedy, theater, film, literary, visual arts and spectacle elements.

What does Bumbershoot have to do with frozen yogurt?

This year marks the return of Bumbershoot’s panel series, “Why This? Why That? Why Now?” to the Words & Ideas stage, discussing current cultural trends. Saturday’s session, entitled Why Froyo? Why YOLO? Why Now? “delves into the current fascination with froyo (frozen yogurt) and the YOLO (You Only Live Once!) lifestyle. Members of this discussion include Katie Hudson, Donna & Tom Hudson (Owners of Zoëyogurt) and Joel Watson (Creator of the web comic Hijinks Ensue).” These experts will discuss the topics and answer questions from the audience.

Bumbershoot provided the following background to Saturday’s session: “Froyo emerged over the past few years as the healthy-lifestyle alternative to ice cream. Praised for its miraculous cultures and ability to be topped with just about any form of fruit or candy, froyo is everywhere. A trend that started in LA with expensive, snooty stores like Pinkberry, froyo stands have popped up in every corner of the country. Katie, Donna, and Tom Hudson join our panel as representatives of Zoëyogurt, and claim to be responsible for bringing self-serve, pay by the ounce, froyo to Seattle.”

We are excited to see frozen yogurt as a topic of discussion at a major festival. And we’re even more excited that the panel representatives also represent IFYA’s Swirl of HonorTM  program. Zoëyogurt has earned three swirls, the most swirls a frozen yogurt shop can be awarded.

If you’re in Seattle for Labor Day and you love frozen yogurt, check out Saturday’s session and get some frozen yogurt at local favorite Zoëyogurt.
