Frozen yogurt continues to be a fast‑growing category in the Philippines. In 2025, the country recorded 99 new frozen yogurt shop openings, second only to the United States with 100, and ahead of Australia with 74. In 2024, the Philippines led the world with 123 openings, followed by the United States with 94, Indonesia with 74, and Australia with 56. The country remains one of the most dynamic froyo markets globally.
The frozen yogurt story in the Philippines began in 1987, when Filipino banker Nelson Bonoan discovered frozen yogurt during a trip to the United States. After experiencing a heart attack and undergoing quadruple bypass surgery, he gave up ice cream and embraced frozen yogurt as a healthier alternative. That personal shift led to a national one: in 1989, Bonoan’s company BTIC (Better Than Ice Cream) became the first frozen yogurt manufacturer in the Philippines, opening its inaugural shop at Park Square Mall in Makati.
BTIC started with hard‑scoop frozen yogurt and expanded steadily through the 1990s and 2000s, adding new product lines, opening mall‑based shops, and building a nationwide distribution network. While other local frozen yogurt shops appeared over the years, BTIC remained the country’s largest player.
By the late 2000s and 2010s, the Philippines entered a new era with the arrival of international frozen yogurt chains. Red Mango was the first global brand to establish a presence, followed by others that helped diversify the market and introduce tart-style froyo and modern toppings bars.
It’s impossible to catalog every frozen yogurt shop past and present due to the sheer number of shops, but we can highlight the largest chains currently operating in the Philippines. These brands represent the core of today’s froyo landscape and illustrate how the category continues to evolve.
Largest Froyo Chains in the Philippines
