Tell us a little about yourself. What's your background and how did you find yourself in the frozen yogurt business?
I have been an entreprenuer my entire career – this is first offline business. My partner Durand has been in the arts, and this is a big new step for him as well. We wanted to start a local business that could foster community.
Describe your shop's concept in 10 words or less:
Easy Breezy serves healthy and delicious frozen yogurt and toppings in a warm, welcoming and community-friendly environment. We support local agriculture, offer organic options whenever possible, and promote zero-waste practices. Sorry – that is more than ten words!!!
Give us a brief history of your shop
Durand's family is from Minnesota, and we spend a few weeks there every summer with the kids and our extended family on White Bear Lake. We love to go to the Cup N Cone there for a soft serve – it's a small shack that has been there forever - our shop was inspired by this type of frozen treat shack you commonly see in the midwest, where families and community gather around a small shack. The person serves you your treat through a screen in the shack, and people gather in the sunshine and enjoy a nice cup or cone.

Tell us about your first cup of frozen yogurt
I grew up in the 80's during yogurt's first wave. I loved the local shop in my hometown – the self-serve model hadn't started yet, but I loved going after school with my girlfriends for a treat. Easy Breezy is a very popular after-school spot now!
Describe your favorite cup of frozen yogurt
My favorite is a chocolate-vanilla swirl on a plain cone. Sometimes I get a cup of almonds to dip the cone into – I love the cone experience, and I LOVE our yogurt!

Swirl of Honor News
For our last post of the year, we look at what happened in the frozen yogurt industry. To measure growth, we looked at froyo shop openings worldwide, froyo chain location counts, new froyo shops in California, and new froyo trucks and trailers. We also tracked new froyo flavors and flavor trends. And we summarize IFYA news and froyo press releases.
All Yoga-urt locations have earned three swirls from our Swirl of Honor program, based on an assessment of frozen yogurt quality, store cleanliness, superior customer service, and environmentally friendly business practices.
The International Frozen Yogurt Association extends a warm welcome to Easy Breezy in Walnut Creek, CA, the newest member of our Swirl of Honor program. Easy Breezy earned three swirls, the maximum possible number of swirls, based on frozen yogurt quality, store cleanliness, superior customer service, and environmentally friendly business practices.
