We didn’t find many froyo shops in Peru; in fact, Peru seems to have the fewest froyo shops of the South American countries we’ve examined (i.e., Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela). Peru has a population of 33.42 million and its GDP ranks #6 among Latin American and Caribbean countries. The three largest cities are Lima (9.56 million), Arequipa (1.01 million), and Trujillo (920,000). We were curious about the froyo scene in Peru. Given the size of Lima, it was the natural entry point for froyo in Peru.
Yogen Fruz was the first that we could find though we’re not sure when they opened their stores. They signed a development agreement for Peru in 2008. Pinkberry, which opened in Lima in 2011, has done well and currently has 19 locations. Peru is the only South American country where Pinkberry operates.
When we were researching froyo stores, we came across quite a few yogurt griego shops, shops that sell fresh (not frozen) Greek yogurt (e.g., Oxa Lact, Vakimu, Yogurt Artesenal Alice, Prana Yogurt Natural, Dulceyogurth).
Froyo shops in Peru:
- Coconube has two attractive self-serve locations and offers froyo, froyo mochi, fresh yogurt, and bowls. They emphasize the quality of their yogurt. The Facebook page was created in 2011. The San Isidro location closed.
- Happy Ice in Lima opened in 2018. They call themselves a Peruvian ice cream parlor that sells frozen yogurt, smoothies, shakes, and drinks.
- Pinkberry, the counter-serve multinational froyo chain, opened in Lima in 2011 and currently has 19 locations. The menu includes froyo, shakes, parfaits and bite size Bombones.
- Tutti Frutti, the multinational froyo chain, opened in 2012 in Lima. The self-serve location at CC Jockey Plaza has closed. We’re not sure if they had/have other locations in Peru.
- Yogen Fruz signed a development agreement for Peru in 2008. A few locations opened (we’re not sure how many). Also, we’re not sure how many are left. The one at CC Jockey Plaza closed.
We created a new Pinterest board, Froyo in Peru, with pictures of froyo and froyo shops in Peru.
