It’s that time for the tale of the tape, our annual froyo chain location count. We’ll reveal the largest froyo chains in the world, how many locations they currently have, and how much they shrank or grew compared to this time last year. The big news is that Yoajung in South Korea is now the largest frozen yogurt chain in the world, with 564 locations. Llaollao surpassed Menchie’s to become the 2nd largest froyo chain in the world, and Menchie’s is now the third largest.
The top 10 largest frozen yogurt chains in the world accounted for approximately 2,267 locations, an increase of 16% (or 311 locations) since December 2023. We missed the growth of two froyo franchises in South Korea, Yoajung and Yogurt World, in previous years and don’t know how many locations each had in 2023. Yoajung and Yogurt World shops are counter-serve.
Most of the froyo franchises on our list shrank this year. Greenfrost closed 23 branches and fell out of the top 10, while Yogurt World and Yoajung joined the list for the first time. Sour Sally added 24 locations but fell out of the top 10.
Goyurt in Colombia claims to have over 100 locations, but we could not access the list of locations.
The List of Largest Froyo Chains by Location Count
1. Yoajung: 564 locations
According to the Yoajung website, Yogajung has the #1 market share in South Korea. Yoajung has also harnessed the power of celebrities and influencers, including Hyewon of girl group N-MIX, singer Kang Min-kyung, and YouTuber Ipjjat-eun Haetnim.
2. Llaollao: 317 locations (+44 locations vs. December 2023)
We have a new #1…Llaollao is now the largest froyo chain the the world (by location count) with 317 locations. They opened 44 locations since our last count. The most Llaollao locations are in Spain with 111, followed by Malaysia with 83, and the Philippines with 52.
3. Menchie’s: 316 locations (-10 locations vs. December 2023)
Menchie’s was the world’s largest froyo chain for years, but it is shrinking. It has 285 locations in the US and 31 outside of the US. You can find the most Menchie’s locations in California, with 72 branches, followed by Texas with 41, and Florida with 40.
4. SweetFrog: 250 locations (no change from December 2023)
We weren’t able to easily access a list of SweetFrog locations. They’ve also claimed to have 250 locations for the last few years. We’re not sure how many locations are still open.
5. Yogurtland: 220 locations (no change from December 2023)
We were not able to access a list of Yogurtland’s locations from the Yogurtland website, a Yogurtland press release from November 2024 states that they have 220 locations. Most of the locations are in the US. They also claimed to have 220 locations in 2023 and 2022.
6. Pinkberry: 191 locations (-62 locations vs. December 2023)
While Pinkberry’s press releases do not mention the number of their locations, we were able to find the locations with a bit of effort. The Pinkberry World website has links to the websites of each country where Pinkberry has stores. We found 57 locations in the US and 134 outside of the US. In 2023, there were 95 locations in Canada, most co-branded with Second Cup. In December 2024, there was one location in Canada.
7. Yogurt World (161 locations)
Yogurt World is a South Korean froyo franchise founded in 2021. The outlets are counter-serve and the yogurt ice cream is made with Greek yogurt. This year, they introduced a low sugar froyo with 80% less sugar.
8. Yogorino: 125 locations (- 14 locations vs. December 2023)
Yogorino’s new website does not list its store locations. There were 139 locations last December. We estimate that 10% have closed but this is just a guess. Most of their branches are in Italy.
9. Yogen Fruz: 123 locations (-28 locations vs. December 2023)
It was easy to access the list of current Yogen Fruz locations on the website. There are 93 locations in Canada. At its height, Yogen Fruz had over 1,300 locations in over 40 countries.
9. TCBY : 123 locations (-16 locations vs. December 2023)
The TCBY website lists locations in the United States; Illinois has the most locations, with 19. We know that there are some international locations but are unable to determine how many exist.
Our Methodology
Our store location counts are based on the list of locations on the chain’s websites as of mid-December 2023. We also considered whether the information seemed current. If we could not determine the store location counts from the chain’s website or the website appeared outdated, we looked at recent press releases. However, we placed less confidence in location counts that were not obtained from the chain’s website with a list of current locations.
Update
Sour Sally opened outlet #124 on 12/31/24. They should have been number 9 on our list, with TCBY and Yogen Fruz tied for #10 on the list of largest froyo chains.
