For Earth Day 2022, we’d like to recognize and applaud a few frozen yogurt businesses that have demonstrated their commitment to being eco-friendly. We encourage all frozen yogurt shops to find ways to reduce waste, adopt eco-friendly packaging, use energy efficient appliances, and avoid toxic cleaning supplies.

Did you see our feature on edible spoons? They’re catching on and being offered by a few froyo shops.

Deliyoguen, Colombia

Deliyoguen, a froyo chain in Colombia, was the first in Colombia with edible spoons. The spoons are like cookies and are made by Crunchis, a Colombian company.

Llaollao

Llaollao, the largest froyo chain in Europe and Asia, has large green apple box takeout containers for froyo and toppings. They’re so cute that I’m sure people reuse them. Llaollao’s carryout apple containers aren’t new but we’ve never praised them in an Earth Day post before. The green apple was inspired “by the naturalness of the brand” and developed by designer Eduardo del Fraile and llaollao. The apple maintains the produce temperature and has space for yogurt and a try for 3 toppings.

Llaollao also has reusable glass containers called llaollao glass that they use to serve froyo and two two toppings.

Oh My Yog!, Mexico

Oh My Yog! in Monterrey, Mexico specializes in vegan, keto, and low sugar ice cream and froyo options. To reduce waste, they let you bring your thermos and fill it with froyo and toppings. Also, they offer edible spoons.

Sweet Savannah’s, US

Sweet Savannah’s in Louisville, Kentucky offers vegan edible spoons from Incredible Eats.

U’gurt, Mexico

U’gurt (Mexico) introduced a stainless steel U’gurt thermos that helps keep your froyo cold in 2019. The original colors were black and mint. Our favorite is the new limited edition white and blue thermos.

Yo-Chi, Australia

Australia’s Yo-Chi introduced Co-Chi bowls in early 2021. They’re custom coconut bowls emblazoned with Yo-Chi’s branding. Sold in Yo-Chi stores, $5 of every Co-Chi purchase goes to the Jirrahlinga Koala and Wildlife Sanctuary in Barwon Heads. Also, when you reuse the Co-Chi bowl, you get 10% off your purchase.

Yole, Singapore

Yole Singapore has an Earth Day special this Earth Day: Visit Yole on Earth Day and get a free Crunch Cutlery (edible) spoon with your froyo order. Crunch Cutlery is a Singaporean company dedicated to reducing single-use plastic waste. Their edible spoons are healthy; each spoon is “packed with flax, chia and whole wheat, you will get a boost of Omega 3, Vitamin B3, Lignans and Fiber with every bite.”

YOMARO, Germany

YOMARO, which has outlets across Germany, started offering edible vegan froyo spoons last year. They also sell reusable 100% biodegradable froyo cups that come with a froyo spoon. The food safe cups are made of 42% bamboo fiber and 58% corn starch and are free of BPA and harmful substances.
