December is typically a slow month in the US and Europe because of the colder temperatures. Some shops closed for the season. But things were pretty busy elsewhere, particularly in Asia.
Here’s our monthly roundup of froyo shop openings and closings around the world. We found 37 froyo shop openings in 16 countries in December. India and Malaysia had the most openings, with six. Llaollao, Europe and Asia’s largest froyo chain, had the most openings with six, while Myfroyoland opened four in India. Yole opened their first branch in Brunei.
Back in November 2021, we found 23 new froyo shops in 12 countries.

We were sad to hear that BerryLine closed the Porter Square location in December. They posted the following message, “To the many friends of BerryLine Porter Square, I am sad to announce the permanent closure of this location. We hope to see you again soon at our Harvard Square shop where will continue to offer the best dang froyo anywhere. To keep up the good work, we will close our Harvard shop Dec 19-Jan 20ish to complete upgrades and renovations aimed at streamlining operations which will allow us to continue providing our amazing home made toppings….and more. Thank you for 12 years of amazing memories.”

Dream Swirls was a self-serve froyo shop in Goodyear, Arizona that opened in 2013. The owners posted the following message: “Hello Dream Swirls community, sorry that it’s been a while since we’ve been able to post. I wanted to let everyone know that we will be closing our doors on December 24th. It was a tough decision, but we’ve been buried in numerous and serious health issues since this spring and finally decided that we couldn’t keep things going at the shop any more. Terri and I really want to thank all of you – sincerely – for being such great customers for the last eight years. We’ve had a fantastic time getting to know many of you, running fundraisers with you, and helping you get through the day with a little froyo when you really need it…Again, you really have our sincere appreciation and gratitude for being so great to us AND all of our employees for so many years.
