Who would have guessed that December would be such a busy month for new froyo shop openings? But it has been. Llaollao is on track to open nine outlets this month – in El Salvador, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Indonesia had the most openings this month, with 10, followed by Malaysia (4). There were also multiple openings in Australia, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Singapore, and South Africa.
In contrast, there were only a few permanent closures. Many froyo shops have closed for the season though. Others are temporarily closed due to COVID-19.

Frozi Yogi in Tilburg, Netherlands announced that they would not renew their lease at the end of the year and would close instead. The shop first opened in 2014.

The owners announced on December 27 that December 31 would be the final day of business. They posted this message on FB: “Thanks for the memories. We have decided to end our journey as owners of Menchies Frozen Yogurt at Heritage Place. Decreased sales driven by the pandemic, the on-going increases in minimum wage, food cost and equipment repair make it apparent that now is the time for us to move to our next phase of life. December 31 will be our last day of service. We opened the shop in February 2015 with 3 goals in mind: 1. Offer an amazing product that is fun and healthy for everyone. 2. Create an environment where guests can enjoy sharing life events. 3. Provide a high-integrity employment opportunity for the community. We’ve tried to make our location a favorite with every guest we’ve served. They’ve made us part of their weddings, adoption announcements, proms, cancer recoveries, Make-a-Wish events, birthdays and we’ve even attended a guest’s funeral. We feel honored to be included in so many important milestones. We couldn’t have done this without the 100+ Team Members who have helped us cheerfully announce “Welcome to Menchies” as they’ve walked through the door.”

Mixed Up Cup in Ooltewah, TN closed on December 27. The good news is that they will continue to offer some of the Mixed Up Cup menu at Infinity Yoga. The owners posted the following message on FB: “Unfortunately and with very heavy hearts, we have decided to close Mixed Up Cup as of December 27 this year. For a while now we have been struggling with this decision, but ultimately we’ve decided that this is the best move for us under the current circumstances. To say that we’ve enjoyed serving our friends and patrons over the last six and half years is an understatement, and for that reason, we wanted to follow-up this disappointing news with some exciting developments coming next year…As you may or may not know, we are also the owners of Infinity Yoga/Yoga East Ooltewah, the studio space directly above Mixed Up Cup. Closing the operation downstairs is going to provide us with an opportunity to really focus on our health and wellness offering through Yoga, while also incorporating some of the most popular items from the Mixed Up Cup menu, including our juices, smoothies, and açaí bowls. So we like to think of this closure as more of a consolidated transition, if you will.
