Other International Frozen Chains to Watch

Moyo

While not the largest in their respective countries, these home-grown frozen yogurt chains have shown promising growth. Each has over 100 locations. In this post, we take a closer look at Moyo (Mexico), Smooy (Spain), Yogurtlandia (Italy), and YoYogurt (Italy).

Moyo

Moyo was founded in Mexico in 2008. The founders wanted to create artisanal Bulgarian yogurt ice cream. The yogurt is made in Mexico and the company emphasizes the health benefits of its frozen yogurt. Moyo currently has 125 locations. The concept is counter serve.

Smöoy

While llaollao is the largest frozen yogurt chain based in Spain, with 162 locations as of late 2018, the second largest Spanish froyo chain, Smooy, has 117 locations. This includes locations in South America, Asia, Africa, and other countries in Europe. Smooy claims to have the “the first functional, low-fat, high-fiber and Gluten free frozen yogurt” that it developed using “more than 95 years of experience as ice-cream artisans.” Smooy was founded in Spain in 2010. There are currently four yogurt and ice cream bases: Natural yogurt, special (a flavor that changes every week), chocolate and cream. The concept is counter serve, with other menu options, including smoothies, freezers (slushes), and sweets.

Yogurtlandia

Yogurtlandia was founded in 1995 by a Venetian entrepreneur who was inspired to develop a healthier frozen yogurt that was better suited to the European palate, one with less fat and sugar. It’s positioned as yogurt ice cream. The concept was franchised and there are currently about 100 locations. They have one flavor of frozen yogurt.

YoYogurt

Like the larger Italian chain, Yogorino, the majority of YoYogurt’s locations are in Italy. YoYogurt was founded by two brothers in 2001 in Reano, Turin and currently has 108 locations. Their vision was to make high quality, healthy frozen yogurt accessible to all. YoYogurt appears to have one frozen yogurt flavor, along with crepes, brioche, and smoothies.
