There are too many froyo shops in India to cover the entire history of froyo in India. However, we do know that Cocoberry, established in 2009, claims to be the first frozen yogurt brand in India. It is counter-serve. By 2011, Cocoberry had 32 shops in seven cities. The first foreign franchise in India was Canadian franchise, Kiwi Kiss, which entered the Indian market in 2010.

Another early home-grown froyo chain, Yogurtbay, opened its first shop in Mumbai in 2011. Yogurtbay, which was also counter-serve, added Wafflebay and went quiet in 2018. Cocoberry still has fourteen outlets in India.

Large Multinational Froyo Chains Arrive

With India as the second-largest market in the world at the time (in terms of population), it was inevitable that large multinational froyo chains would be drawn to the market. The first large multinational froyo chain to enter India was Korean-based Yogurberry, which opened a shop in India in December 2011. Red Mango opened its first Indian outlet in 2012 in Delhi. choosing the self-serve format and offering healthy snacks, salads, sandwiches, and pasta. Not to be outdone, Pinkberry followed, opening three counter-serve shops in one day in July 2013.  The last Red Mango India tweet was posted in December 2022, and the last Pinkberry India tweet was posted in February 2016.

Menchie’s in India

The master franchisor of Menchie’s India, MOI Retail Private Ltd, opened eighteen locations in India. The first Menchie’s shops in India opened in 2014 and the last in 2019. Most of these locations were only open for a year or two. We found eighteen closed Menchie’s shops in India and no shops that are still in business. The last Instagram post from Menchie’s India was on February 19, 2020. The last Facebook post was made on March 5, 2019.

Disagreement Leads to Launch of a New Brand

Myfroyoland Jaipur

In 2017, a disagreement with Menchie’s master franchisor in India and franchisees led to the closure and rebranding of several locations in Mumbai and Pune. As a result, a new brand was established, Myfroyoland. There was some confusion about which stores were Menchie’s and which were not at that time. For example, in November 2017, Menchie’s India posted the following “Please do not get fooled by the low quality dessert being served by the copycats in the name of MENCHIE’S. WE HAVE NOT BEEN OPERATING IN MAHARASHTRA FOR ALMOST SIX MONTHS NOW! WE WILL NOTIFY OUR DEAR MENCHIE’S LOVERS SOON ABOUT OUR LOCATIONS!!” And in December 2017, Menchie’s India claimed, “we were forced to revoke the authorisation of the stores operating in Mumbai and Pune in view of non-compliance with quality and standards.” The matter is still being disputed in court.

The disagreement led to the launch of Myfroyoland, a self-serve froyo concept established in 2015. Myfroyoland opened 18 new stores in 2021, a tough year for froyo, and continues to grow rapidly. Today, it lists fifty shops in India, UK, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. On the face of it, Myfroyoland has a similar concept to Menchie’s – the froyo is self-serve with an emphasis fun, excitement, friends, and family.

  • Menchie’s, Plot No. 243, Road No. 36, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Telangana 500033. The last review was posted in 2020.

Opened in 2015

  • Menchie’s, Lower ground shop no. 2, Power point Building, Lane 6, Koregaon Park, Pune 411001 opened in 2015, and closed in 2017.
  • Menchie’s, 40-1-155, MG Rd, Sidhartha Nagar, Labbipet, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh 520010, opened in December 2015 at Ripples Mall, the last IG post in 2017.

Opened in 2016

  • Menchie’s, Unit 16, Balewadi High Street, Balewadi-baner, Pune – 411045, opened in February 2016, the last reviews were in 2017.
  • Menchie’s, 100 Feet Rd, Opp Toit Pub, Indira Nagar 1st Stage, H Colony, Indiranagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560038, opened in early 2016, and the last IG post in 2017.
  • Menchie’s, Shop No 3, 4 & 3A, Main Road, Himayat Nagar, Hyderabad – 500029
  • Menchie’s, Linking Road, Khar Pali Rd Near Khar Telephone Exchange, Mumbai 400052, opened in 2016 and was last reviewed in 2018.

  • Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Shop No – A-01, Courtyard Market, Nirvana Country, Sector – 50, Gurugram, Haryana, opened in October 2017, and closed in 2019.
  • Menchie’s, Building no. 26, Ground Floor, Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi, Delhi 110016, opened in 2017, and closed in 2020.

Opened in 2018

  • Menchie’s, 4th Floor, Above Food Court, Ambience Mall, Gurugram, 122002, opened May 12, 2018, and closed in 2019 or 2020.
  • Menchie’s, The Pavillion, Senapati Bapat Road, Pune opened in June 2018 and closed in 2019.
  • Menchie’s, Westend Mall, 2nd floor, Near Parihar Chowk, Aundh Harmony Society, Ward No. 8, Wireless Colony, Aundh, Pune, Maharashtra 411007, opened October 18, 2018 and closed in 2019.
  • Menchie’s, Dosti Imperia, 23, Khewra Cir Marg, Manpada, Thane West, Maharashtra 400607, opened in 2018 and closed 2019 or 2020.

  • Menchie’s, Food Court, Second Floor, Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden, New Delhi, opened in April 2019, and closed in 2020?
  • Menchie’s, Take Eat Easy, Central Plaza Mall, Golf Course Rd, Sector 53, Gurugram, Haryana opened in 2019. It was India’s first 24/7 froyo shop.
