Creative Froyo Flavors, the 2023 Edition

We love creative froyo flavors! These are the most creative new froyo flavors that we’ve come across since our last creative froyo flavors post in March 2022 or that we overlooked before. We’re particularly fond of flavors inspired by local and seasonal flavors. Sadly, we haven’t tried any of the flavors on this list but we would love to try them all.

  • Blue Flower Lemonade froyo from Krave Kulture Yogurt in North Vancouver, BC, Canada was introduced in September 2022 (IG @kravekultureyogurt). It’s the prettiest blue froyo. They must use butterfly pea flowers, since their froyos are all-natural. Kraft Kulture makes their own froyo in-house with organic kraft yogurt.
  • Fig Newton froyo from Spoon Café in Williamstown, Massachusetts (IG @spoononspring) is described as savory and sweet. They offered it with a Fig Newton cookie crumble. Interestingly, Fig Newtons are named after Newton, Massachusetts and were first produced in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Spoon Café made our creative flavors list last year with their red bean froyo flavor.
  • Fruity Sprinkles Tart froyo from Yumilicious in Texas (IG @yumiliciousinc) was introduced in September 2022. The fact that they’re combining sprinkles with a tart flavor struck us as unusual in a good way.
  • Gooey Butter Cake froyo from Bella’s Froyo in St. Louis, Missouri (IG @bellasfroyo) was introduced in April 2022. According to Bella’s and Wikipedia, gooey butter cake is a St. Louis thing. Gooey butter cake is a flat, dense cake made with butter, cake flour, sugar, and eggs. It was invented in St. Louis in the 1930s. There are competing claims about who invented it.
  • Guinness Caramel Twist froyo from Tutti Frutti in Jamaica (IG @tuttifruttija) was one of the Easter flavors. It’s not new but we just noticed it. Tutti Frutti Jamaica created several flavors inspired by alcoholic beverages. Some of the others are Jam Stout, Freedom Punch (Rum), Pina Colada, and Rum Cream.
  • Hot Honey froyo from FroYo in St. Louis (IG @froyostl) captured the trends of 2023 back in 2022. It’s sweet and spicy, the combination of flavors that’s a main trend of 2023.
  • Jamaica + Limon froyo from Zo’zen Yogurt in Mexico (IG @zozen.yogurt) is one of the non-boring froyo flavors created by Zo’zen. Zo’zen opened in 2022. The flavor is inspired by a Mexican beverage, hibiscus iced tea, aka, Agua de Jamaica.
  • Orange Chili froyo from Funky Frozen Yogurt in Norway (IG @funkyfrozenyogurt) surprised us because we’ve seen spicy froyo before but usually spicy chocolate and mango flavors. Plus, we haven’t seen a spicy froyo offered in a Scandinavian country before.
  • Passion Fruit Vanilla Rose froyo from Culture NY was introduced in June 2022 (IG @cultureny). Culture starts by making their own Greek yogurt with milk from a New York dairy farm. We love rose flavored froyo and combining rose with passion fruit and vanilla makes our mouth water. While passion fruit has become a popular froyo flavor, it’s rarely combined with rose or even other berry flavors.
  • Rosewater & Saffron froyo from Toppings in Beverly Hills, California (IG @toppingsyogurt) has been available for a few years but we just noticed it. It seems to be a flavor that they offer often. The combination of rosewater and saffron is popular in Persia/Iran. Bastani is a Persian ice cream made with rosewater, saffron, and pistachios. Toppings is a kosher frozen yogurt establishment.
  • Timut Pepper froyo from La Chapelle Dairy in Paris, France (IG @laiterielachapelle) was introduced in 2020. We only found out about the flavor last year, so we’ve put it on the list. La Chapelle Dairy produces raw milk cheeses and yogurt. During the summer, they offer froyo. Timut pepper isn’t actually pepper but it’s a rare relative of the Sichuan pepper that’s a native of Nepal. It’s said to taste like grapefruit and has a tingling effect when consumed.

We hope these froyo flavors inspire other froyo shops to be more creative! Look for our next post, Creative Froyo Toppings.
