The largest cities in Portugal are Lisbon (Lisboa) with a population of nearly 597,000, Sintra (population 410,420), Vila Nova de Gaie (317,859), Porto (264,493), and Cascais (228,079). Lisbon has most of the froyo shops.
There were two periods of growth for frozen yogurt in Portugal: the first, 2011 – 2015, and the second, 2023 – present. We found 54 froyo shops and trucks that are currently open and 16 that have permanently closed. Some of the froyo shops and trucks are open seasonally.
Weeel Frozen Yogurt, founded in Portugal in 2014, has the most locations, with 26 listed on the Weeel website. Of the 26 locations, seven are seasonal, nine are shops, and 17 are frozen yogurt trucks. In second place, llaollao, a Spanish franchise, has eleven shops and trucks in Portugal. The first Llaollao in Portugal opened in 2011. The third largest player, MyIced, has seven locations and is self-serve. Myiced is a Portuguese brand. It specializes in sugar-free, lactose-free frozen yogurt. The top three brands account for 44 of 54 shops or 81%.
Most froyo shops in Portugal are counter-serve. Spanish concepts are common in Portugal. In addition to llaollao, Spanish concepts like Smooy, MYKA, and Yole have opened in Portugal. Portugal was home of the first Llaollao outside of Spain. Interestingly, no American froyo chain has opened a branch in Portugal.

- Gelados & Companhia, R. do Barranco 5, 8400-508 Carvoeiro, is a gelato shop that also offers soft serve natural frozen yogurt. The shop was founded in 2005.
- GURTI, Rua dos Clérigos 25, 4050-205 Porto, is a new Greek frozen yogurt shop that opened in 2026. It is counter-serve.
- GURTI, Largo do Barão de São Martinho 26, 4700-328 Braga, is the first GURTI to open.
- Iogu, C. C. Colombo, Lisbon, launched in 2012, the last post on IG was made in 2014, the last FB post in 2020. It seems to be still open.
- Llaollao, Centro Comercial Parque Nascente, Praceta Parque Nascente 35 Loja 1.1, 4440-452 Porto, likely opened in the early 2010’s. The Spanish franchise is counter-serve.
- Llaollao, MAR Shopping Matosinhos, Av. Dr. Óscar Lopes, 4450-337 Matosinhos, likely opened in the early 2010’s.

- MyIced, Pça Santa Barbara 3, 4715-314 Braga, opened in 2019. It is self-serve.
- Myiced, Av. Dom Afonso Henriques 67, 2000-179, Santarém, opened in 2019 and is self-serve
- Myiced, Edificio São Martinho, Piso 2, Praça do, Tv. Município 110, 4560-481 Penafiel, opened in 2019 and is self-serve

- MYKA Greek, Rua Coelho da Rocha 94, Lisboa, opened in July 2025. The multinational Greek froyo franchise is based in Spain. The Greek froyo is counter-serve.
- MYKA, Casa de São Bernardo, 2750-800, Cascais, opened in June 2026 at the Marina de Cascais.
- Nutissimo, Ribeirão, Nutissimo started as a brick-and-mortar shop in 2023 and added a pink froyo trailer 2025r in Ribeirão, Portugal. The pink truck is still in business. It also serves acai and crepes.

Closed Froyo Shops
- Deli Frozen Yogurt, R. Princesa Dona Amélia, 20 Sala J 9000-019 Funchal opened in 2012. The closing date is unknown. It appears to have been a single location frozen yogurt shop.
- Frozz, R. Dom Pedro V 145, 1250-093 Lisboa, Portugal, originated from the Netherlands. It was counter-serve.
- Iogurteria do Bairro, Calcada Da Estrela, 84 1200-665 Lisbon, started with mobile carts offering prepacked froyo but also had a physical shop that may have opened in 2015. The last IG post was made in 2019.
- Llaollao, N125 Km 103, 8009-126 Faro, was the first Llaollao to open in Portugal in 2011. It was Llaollao’s first international location as well. It may have closed in 2023.
- Llaollao, Rua Carmo, 118 Lisbon, may have opened in 2014 and closed in 2022.
- MyIced, R dos Herois da Grande Guerra 68, 2500-278 Caldas da Rainha, was a self-serve froyo shop that opened in 2014 and closed in 2019. It also served bubble tea, waffles, pancakes, and more.
- MyIced Baixa, R. da Assunção 44, 1100-044 Lisboa, might have been open from 2015 – 2022.
- Nutissimo, Edifício Safira, R. Manuel da Silva Pinheiro 263, Trofa, Porto, the brick and mortar shop that opened in 2023 in Trofa seems to have closed, possibly in 2024.
- Smooy, Amoreiras Shooping Center Av. Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco Loja 2039 1070-103 Lisbon, was part of the Spanish franchise. The first branch in Portugal opened in 2014. It was counter-serve. The last IG post was in 2020.
- Smooy, Av. Zarco 2, São Martinho, 9000-069 Funchal, opened in 2016. The last review was in 2019.
- Smooy, 0.101, R. do Piso 0, opened Dolce Vita Tejo, in 2016 and was last reviewed in 2023
- Smooy, R. dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra 30A, 3810-164 Aveiro, opened in 2017 and may have closed in 2021.
- Sol Frozen Yogurt, Rua Da Azenha, RC-C, Lote 6, Santa Cruz, Torres Vedras, Portugal, 2560-474 Sol, which was founded in Costa Rica in 2011, opened a new shop in Santa Cruz, Portugal on December 4, 2021. It may still be open though they haven’t posted on Instagram since 2022. Unclear status but likely closed.
- Weeel Frozen Yogurt – Colombo, Avenida Lusíada, Centro Comercial Colombo Centro Comercial Colombo, 1500-392 Lisboa, is not listed on the current Weeel website, so we assume that it closed.
- Weeel Frozen Yogurt, R. de São Pedro de Alcântara 3, Lisbon may have closed in 2019. It is not listed on the current Weeel website.
- Yogllu was a mobile froyo truck launched in 2017. We found no additional information, so we assume it has closed.
