It’s interesting to note that of the 87 new flavors, almost 40% of these were froyo alternatives, led by sorbets (12 new flavors). Froyo alternatives include soft serve gelato, Italian ice, coconut milk based soft serve, soft serve fruit, almond milk soft serve and soft serve ice cream. Most of these are dairy-free.

Honey Hill Farms introduced its first soft serve fruit flavors and one coconut milk soft serve flavor. In 2015, Pinkberry came out with its first non-dairy Just Fruit flavors. This year they introduced their first coconut milk soft serve flavors. Menchie’s had coconut milk soft serve and almond milk soft serve. Yogen Fruz introduced a coconut milk soft serve. Yogurtland and Dannon haven’t introduced alternative milk/vegan soft serve yet but they did introduce soft serve gelato flavors. Yogurtland’s gelato is probiotic.

Menchie’s had several big name partnerships, coming out with flavors made with M&Ms, PEEPS, Whoppers, Butterfinger, Nestle Crunch, and Nescafe. 16 Handles partnered with Skinnygirl and AriZona Beverages for two new flavors.

Indulgent frozen yogurt flavors remained popular, with several new peanut butter flavors, cheesecake flavors and chocolate-coconut flavors.

On the more experimental side of things, Orange Leaf introduced a spicy Strawberry Serrano sorbet. Spicy yogurt flavors were also spotted on supermarket shelves (Noosa and Chobani). Other exotic flavors included Blueberry Basil from Yogen Fruz and Blueberry Mangosteen from Yogurtland.

Acai and Greek yogurt flavors weren’t as popular as new flavors this year.
