Call it what you’d like, National or International Frozen Yogurt Day, but NFYD/IFYD February 6 is almost here. At the IFYA, we think of it as an international celebration of frozen yogurt and therefore favor IFYD over NFYD.
We applaud shops that celebrate the glorious creation, frozen yogurt, and the fans who love froyo.
History of National Frozen Yogurt Day
The origins of National Frozen Yogurt Day are unclear but most food holiday sites place NFYD on February 6th. National (U.S.) food holidays are typically created by Congressional legislation, Presidential proclamation or unofficially, when a company or organization declares a food holiday.
There is more than one National Frozen Yogurt Day. In 1993, TCBY declared June as National Frozen Yogurt Month, the first week of June as National Frozen Yogurt Week, and the first Sunday (“Sundae”) of June as National Frozen Yogurt Day.
Wakaberry declared July 26 as National Frozen Yogurt Day in South Africa. NYFD South Africa was celebrated for the first time in 2014.
Chains that Have Planned NFYD Celebrations
- Yogurtland on Feb. 2: Be sure to visit Yogurtland’s NFYD celebration on Feb. 2nd from 4 – 7 PM. Yogurtland and its partner/sponsor, Hershey’s have 2 new froyo flavors (York Peppermint Pattie and Hershey’s Chocolate Milkshake), new toppings (York Peppermint Patties Minis and Hershey’s Mini Kisses), free froyo, and a limited edition Hershey’s collectible spoon.
- Menchie’s on Feb. 6: Menchie’s NYFD celebration on February 6 offers 6 ounces of free froyo and toppings from 4 – 8 PM. One free froyo per guest please.
- Orange Leaf on Feb. 6: Orange Leaf is rewarding its Facebook fans with a buy one, get one free offer on February 6th. To claim the offer, visit the main Orange Leaf Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/orangeleafyogurt) starting February 4. Offers are redeemable in-store on Feb. 6 with proof of claim via smartphone or printed confirmation.
- Cups Frozen Yogurt on Feb. 6: Cups is offering 6 ounces of free froyo and toppings.
- Forever Yogurt on Feb. 6: Mention the “National Froyo Day Promo” between 12-6PM and get 6 oz. of froyo for free
- Yogurtology on Feb. 6: Get 6 oz. of froyo for free between 11 AM – 6 PM
