DeLand, Florida’s Historic District has a new resident, and its mission is anything but old-fashioned. Sweet Lics, a new frozen yogurt shop, set out to be the district’s next family-friendly hot-spot, and it looks like they are well on their way to their goal.

Sweet Lics welcomed their first wave of customers at the end of December 2015, and have been serving up tasty treats to droves of happy Floridians since. The shop is hoping to draw in local college students, government employees and long-time residents with an atmosphere that appeals to everyone. They embraced their building’s historic roots but didn’t hesitate to brighten things up.

With the help of interior design firm Mindful Design Consulting, Sweet Lics took a cheerful, contemporary design and blended it seamlessly with industrial inspiration. Old meets new in the modern but utilitarian seating and tables. The glow of floor-to-ceiling neon fixtures livens up the old brick wall that runs the length of the store.

A palette of pink, yellow and blue brings a vivacious vibe while plenty of windows fill the space with light. The galley-style serving area calls to mind historic rowhouses and the assembly-line structure of old factories, but playful pendant lighting and gorgeous glass tiling keep the atmosphere fun and approachable.

Sweet Lics (224 N Woodland Blvd., DeLand, FL 32720) is just three blocks away from Stetson University and a five-minute walk from Painter’s Pond. Visitors can enjoy their cool treats on the patio or step inside to meet the bubbly owner that inspired the shop’s cheerful design.
