Summer is prime froyo eating season and as such, froyo shops are busy introducing refreshing and/or fun flavors to entice consumers. There’s been a strong trend towards dairy-free soft serve, including soft serve fruit (e.g., Chloe’s Soft Serve Fruit), sorbets, Italian ice, and soft serve made with milk alternatives like coconut milk.
Fun is a big part of this summer’s froyo promotions with more than one video game/froyo partnership, froyo sundae recipes, cookies, donuts, and churros.
New summer flavors include:
16 HANDLES: 16 Handles is going crazy for cookies this summer, with a new froyo flavor, Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, made with real cookie dough, and the addition of Sweet Loren’s cookies as a new topping.
DANNON YOCREAM: New flavors, Orange Splash Sorbet and Party Time (which tastes like fruit punch) capture the fun mood of the summer.
DOLE: Lemon soft serve is new for the summer and predicted to be Dole’s #2 best seller. IFYA members can request a free Dole starter kit, worth approximately $50, from Kent Precision Foods Group. JENI’S SPLENDID ICE CREAMS: The newest scoopable froyo flavor, Black Currant, is sweeter but still has a tangy bite.
MENCHIE’S: Twisted Cinnamon Churro and Caramel Coconut Cookie Crunch were June’s new flavors. In July Menchie’s announced its Summer Sorbet Extravaganza featuring Dole Lemon soft serve, Summertime Watermelon, Fresh Honeydew, Dole Pineapple soft serve, Sweet Pink Lemonade and Strawberry Kiwi Twist.
PINKBERRY: It didn’t take long for Cinnamon Churro Pinkberry to morph into Chocolate Cinnamon Churro Pinkberry. For July, Pinkberry introduced two new flavors: Blueberry and Strawberry Margarita.
ORANGE LEAF: Orange Leaf customers asked for froyo recipes and Orange Leaf responded with its Trio of Goodness Sundaes: Summer Fresh Cup Sundae, Pineapple Coconut Pie Sundae and Banana Split Sundae.
YOGURTY’S/YOGEN FRUZ: Yogurty’s and Yogen Fruz have joined forces with Splatoon, a video game from Nintendo Canada, to bring you Splatoon flavors and toppings. The flavors are the Squidsicle (mango popsicle sorbet) and Inkberry (low-fat strawberry frozen yogurt). Swirl them together to create Squid Ink. Their summer contest includes Splatoon prizes.
YOGURTLAND: The new Off the Stick promotion brought four new nostalgic flavors inspired by popsicles: Strawberry Shortcake Pop, Grape Freeze Sorbet, Big Pop Sorbet, and Chocolate Banana A’Peel. Candy Crush is the inspiration for their summer promotion, Sweet Treats. Sweet Treats features new Candy Crush inspired froyo flavors (Orange Fizz Sorbet, Maple Donut, Blue Raspberry Sorbet, Chocotastic Sorbet, Salted Caramel Gelato, Candy Clouds, Lemonade Lake, Cupcake Carnival, Butterscotch, Minty Meadow), Candy Crush inspired toppings and collectible Candy Crush spoons.
